Here&#8217;s something else that is new in this release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Microsoft SQL Server Driver Updates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;ve rebuilt the Microsoft SQL Server driver with some new capabilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Security<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>TLS 1.2\/1.3 support with related configuration options<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Column-level encryption<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for Server Certificate validation (including self-issued certificates)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved error handling for security operations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: these features require the Microsoft ODBC Driver<strong> 17+<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Version Support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SQL Server 2005 through 2022<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SQL Server on Linux<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Azure SQL Database<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Existing connection strings and configurations remain valid unchanged<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Azure SQL Database Support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Azure Active Directory and Managed Identity authentication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Failover group support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Region-aware connectivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elastic pool connections<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Backward Compatibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with all our releases, Clarion 12 maintains 100% backward compatibility. Existing applications will work without modification, and all new features are opt-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General ODBC Driver Improvements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SQL Server driver improvements extend into our entire ODBC stack:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Refactored connection handling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhanced custom connection string support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More detailed error handling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full compatibility with existing applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PostgreSQL Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our ODBC driver layer provides enhanced support for the official PostgreSQL ODBC driver:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improved connection string handling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhanced error reporting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full compatibility with PostgreSQL&#8217;s native ODBC capabilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SQLite Updates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And we&#8217;re working on new SQLite features:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In-memory database support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved transaction handling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better concurrent connection management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;ll soon provide a web application where developers can sign up to test upcoming AI features in the IDE. The database improvements in this release are complete and are in final testing. We need a few more days of testing before we announce C12 GA.
